A training for Healthcare workers in Kano State on Diarrhea Management, BCI Strategy and Gender norms took place last week in the Kano city. The training, which is aimed at equipping Healthcare workers with knowledge and skills on managing Diarrhea for the promotion of Zinc LO-ORS, had in attendance 22 participants, comprising of CHEWS, TBA’s and VCM’s and Partners (NI state Coordinator, WBFA State Lead, Training facilitators, FAcE-PaM and SWODEN teams).
Activities carried out during the training include, Participatory techniques, discussions, group work and presentations, which were adopted for the facilitation of the training.
Background on Diarrhea, Definition of terms, Causes of Diarrhea, Types, Risk factors, prevention and treatment, were among topics treated. Other topics treated also include LO-ORS/Zinc, How to prepare and administer ORS, Assessment and Diagnoses, Over-view of BCI Strategy and Gender Mainstreaming in BCI.
Healthcare workers attitudes, poverty, lack of men’s support were identified as some of the barriers to accessing healthcare.
At the end of the training participants shared their work plans, some of the touch points identified by participants for subsequent dissemination of BCI messages include; immunisation platforms, Health education during ANC, home visits, naming ceremony, weddings community Mobilization and sensitisation.
Tracking would be on a monthly basis using existing/developed monitoring tools will involve monitoring and progress reports.
